Buff Paving Slabs

An excellent variety of colours can be found in our buff paving slab range, from dark caramels and almonds through blondes, ochres and bronzes, right up to silvery creams and dusky wheat at the lighter end of the spectrum. It includes the traditionally standard buff tones (think manilla paper or classic Cotswold stone). Throughout the range, you can choose from lightly riven, riven, smooth or textured surfaces, and rectified, sawn, cut or tumbled edges. Our buff paving stones are well suited for those seeking to bring an authentic, traditional charm to their project.

What is "Buff"

Traditional standard buff tones are the midway between russet and blonde. The word comes from the undyed "buffalo" leather worn by 17th soldiers of the English civil war (though it may have come from any bovine animal). Famously, the soldiers of the Royal East Kent Regiment were nicknamed "the buffs" for the buff-coloured waistcoats they wore. Today, this traditional buff colour has encompassed a wider array of tones, but it is very much still centred on the light and sandy or the darker shades of cognac or almond.

Buff Indian Sandstone Paving

Our sandstone collection includes natural buff tones like those found in our Classic Buff Indian Sandstone and lighter gold variations such as Classic Golden Fossil Indian Sandstone. Both of these Classic Sandstones are 600-series format slabs (600 mm being the common dimension in the  different sized slabs), and they have hewn riven surfaces and hand-cut edges. For time-worn period style patio paving, we suggest the Tudor Antique range. Cloister Flagstones (Buff) and Deanery Flagstones (Golden Fossil) are tumbled versions of the Classic range, with softer, smoother finishes and edges akin to antique paving stones.

Buff Limestone Paving

Our buff limestone paving has been selected to reflect an air of antiquity. They have all the hallmarks of classic limestone paving, with their beautiful, varied washes of gold, grey and brown highlights. They have riven to light riven surfaces, adding to that time-worn feel, and a choice of tumbled edge finish (Cathedral Flagstones) to enhance further the sense of age, or sawn straight edges (Abbey Limestone) to add a note of modernity.

Buff Porcelain Slabs

These buff porcelain slabs are incredibly hard-wearing and will hold their colour against weather or spillages. The porcelain manufacturing process means the tiles vitrified, making them waterproof, with an impermeable glass-like surface that is easier to maintain and clean than other paving. Because porcelain paving is impermeable (waterproof) it is unaffected by frost or ice that can erode, crack and split natural stone or concrete paving over time.

Our porcelain is designed to preserve the beauty of our natural stone with the added advantage of weatherproofing, strength and durability. Within our range, you'll find porcelain styled to appear as limestone (Dolomite French Limestone), travertine (Dolomite Travertine), as timber/wood (Deckwood Buff) and more general tonal patterns in buff/beige such as linen (Calibra Linen).

Buff Concrete Paving

We have a wide choice of buff concrete paving, from stone-effect riven concrete such as the Fairford range (Fairford Old Gold and Fairford Stone) through to plainer textured styles such as Textured Beige. We also offer buff utility concrete paving in both riven stone-effect (Stow 600 x 600 mm & Stow 450 x 450 mm) and textured surface (Moreton 600 x 600 mm & Moreton 450 x 450 mm) in two size options.
